Burkhalter's 73 Shines at St James Bay

CARRABELLE, FL– The Gulf breezes blew across St James Bay Golf Course on this perfect north Florida spring day doing their best to keep things cool. It was a day the Carrabelle Chamber of Commerce would be proud of.

But nothing kept Tallahassee's Chase Burkhalter from heating up the course. He brought his smooth swing and consistent shot-making to this perfectly manicured coastal layout, hitting 14 fairways and carding 3 birdies on his way to the day's low round of 73.

Close behind were Tallahassee's Spencer Cokely, 75, and Wacissa's Henry Westmoreland, 77. Valdosta's Tripp Talley carded an 82 in his first appearance at a RHJT event.

Tallahassee's Carter Thompson overcame trouble early on the narrow fourth hole and fought his way back to take first place in the 11-12 Boys division with 82. Eli Hendricks, Tallahassee, finished second with 83, and Alex Lucking, Panama City, placed third with 86.

Other solid performances were turned in by Dothan's Kyle Cornelius, who shot 44 to take first place in 9-10 Boys over Tallahassee's Bryce Johnson, 50 and Pelham's Brock Allen, 57.

Moultrie's Elizabeth Funderburk turned in a nice 51, and in her first RHJT appearance, Taylor Harrison, Havana, shot 60.

Jodi Henley fired a nice 89 to lead the 13-14 Girls; Tallahassee's Danny Young's 85 was good enough to take first in 15-16 Boys.
